8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter
Published in Paperback by Workman Publishing Company (May, 2002)
Author: W. Bruce Cameron
Average review score:

A great, funny little book....
Having watched the TV show every week with my 13 year old daughter (one time a week we are actually entertained together), I had an idea this would be a funny little book. But I just couldn't stop laughing. My wife would look at me like I was crazy when I read a few passages to her. Made me realize that it's truly for us dads. There is so little in the media that we can identify with as fathers of daughters that this is an oasis of "yes, there are others going through it as well, you're not alone". It helps you to understand it's nothing really personal, just the normal cycle, the way of the world. This is truly a "User's Manual". Hang onto this book during the storm, then pass it on to the next sailor as he comes up the pike.

Oops, gotta go pick up my daughter at the mall now, better run....;)

Instant reassurance for frustrated fathers
W. Bruce Cameron depicts teenage girls to a T in this easy-to-read masterful description of modern adolescent life. He has somehow managed to crawl into the confused, everything-is-a-crisis minds of teenage girls to help frustrated fathers better understand where they stand in the lives of their estrogen-driven daughters. As a father of three teenage girls myself, I commiserated with his hilarious descriptions of radical mood swings, theatrical expressions, rolling eyes, exaggerated sighs and "that's not my job" attitudes. The conversations he chronicles with his kids will keep you in stitches. Written for specifically for fathers, I wound up reading many of the passages aloud to my wife and my righteously indignant daughters. My wife and I laughed so hard tears came to our eyes as we saw our own girls aptly described in this hard to put down book. Eight Simple Rules was so funny, I purchased copies for other DODOs (dads of daughters only) that I know. This book is a must read for any man who already shares bathroom space with a teenage girl -- or for some poor soul who may someday try to raise one.

Disturbing, but funny
In this fascinating work, columnist W. Bruce Cameron describes the simultaneous descent of his life into chaos and his daughter's trek through the teenage years. He covers the changes in his daughter's relationships to her family and friends, her seeming loss of sanity, and her physical changes and disturbing interest in boys. The story is covered in hilarious detail, as many aspects of life in general (and life with a teenage girl in particular) are covered, and lampooned.

I must admit that I found this book somewhat disturbing. My eleven-year-old daughter and I have been reading some American Girls books together, and the thought that this loving flower will soon turn into a teenager has my blood running cold!

But seriously, this book is a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek look at the experiences of a father of a teenage girl: what he experiences, what he feels, and how he (unsuccessfully) tries to deal with it all. It is a must-read for any father of a present or future teenager. I highly enjoyed this laugh-out-loud book, and highly recommend it to you.

Piers Anthony's Visual Guide to Xanth
Published in Hardcover by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Piers Anthony, Jody Nye, Todd Cameron Hamilton, and James Clouse

Not bad. Not bad at all.
A good introduction to Xanth, I guess. I haven't read any other Xanth books, though. If you know, could you e-mail me at wibsatp@hotmail.com?

Excellent beginning!
This is a good book for getting you acquainted with the Xanth series. I have been reading them for years, but get confused which comes next as they are not all numbered. I like them as one leads into another. Maybe someone has these listed somewhere from start to most recent? ...

Finally a fantasy world that can feel real.
The Xanth stories are full of wonderful puns and jokes. It also is filled with action, romance, and young women whom, for some reason or another show their panties to creatures. This is not a dirty book however. This is perfect from young adult to ancient adult.

When the Ravens Die

Highly Recommend!
I found I really liked the cover alot, and was the reason I even looked at the book. The story itself was very good, enjoyed all the twist and turns as well as the characters. I am happy to have added to by book collection, and recommend. Cudo's to the illustrator of the cover!

When the Ravens Die
For all intrigue lovers and American Anglophiles, here is a book that will entertain you during both slow summer days and long winter evenings. Or rather who could resist the story of British Royal family political intrigue and romance of the lonely hearts all intertwined with the American professor's quest for his ancestral roots and much more?
As we accompany Malcolm Bride, gentlemanly, principled and "ruggedly handsome" professor of American history at Amherst, on his long-postponed trip to England, little do we know the twists and turns his search for ancestors will take. We move quickly from quaint London inn to Hall of Records and dark cemeteries, follow winding streets from English pubs and underground clubs to Windsor Castle, polo matches and dinner parties at Kensington. As the scenes change from chapter to chapter, the cast of noble and scumbag characters, both royal and ordinary, is introduced with nuanced descriptive details. The dialogs are spirited with particularly witty and sharp exchanges between Bride and Colin Crowe, the reporter for BBC Radio 4 on the scent of a "hot," Royal bloods' story.
A long-time journalist himself, Mr. Kent brings his characters to life with a keen sense of reality and drama as he masters "the random timing and juxtaposition of life's little events." The inner politics of the Royal family, however imaginary, play on modern readers' zest for gossip and offer a thrill of insider's view of celebrities. We feel privy to conversations, feelings and situations otherwise far removed from our daily lives. Bride's original quest for truth gets complicated when it turns into a story of deception and murder. As lies proliferate and stories are fabricated in order to discover an actual story, the very nature of truth today is questioned. A post-modern reader finds pleasure in the realization that we are reading a made-up story about truth that can be reached only through creating more untruths. The climax of coronation scene is slightly tinted by the cowboy bravado of western-like chases and escapes crowding the closing chapters of the book. Still the big questions about the nature of truth and how we get to it today powerfully resonate in the reader's mind till the very last page of When the Ravens Die. Enjoy reading it as much as I did.

First Time reviewer
This is a very intense book, hard to put down. You want to keep reading to see what on earth could happen next to the main character of the book. This person could be a continuing series for Mr. Kent!! It makes you wonder what he's going to do next with his life after finding out all he did about his past.. I hope Mr. Kent keeps writing, I will buy his next book!

Meditation as Medicine : Activate the Power of Your Natural Healing Force
Published in Hardcover by Atria Books (February, 2001)
Authors: Cameron Stauth and Dharma M.D. Singh Khalsa
Average review score:

Cutting edge alternative health
The author integrates ancient wisdom and time-tested healing techniques with modern science in this informative and practical book on self-healing. The interesting foreword is by author Joan Borysenko. The purpose of medical meditation is to balance the mind, body and spirit into a powerful whole, for a better, healthier life. It provides specific medical meditations for physiological effects, including special movements and postures, mantras and breathing exercises. How to activate the healing force via the chakra system is discussed in detail and the book includes a section on staying young with the help of nutrients and maintaining endocrine health with meditation. It concludes with a list of sources, recommended reading and an index. Helpful illustrations demonstrate some of the exercises. Khalsa goes into very specific detail and provides information that I have never encountered in similar books on spiritual and mental healing. I recommend this book to all practitioners of alternative healing therapies and to all people who wish to take responsibility for the own health.

Easy Read, Plain English, exc. illus.
Although the authors provide in-depth coverage on the chakras, chi, body-mind-spirit connection, it is so well written and formatted that reading and comprehending the content is more easiy accomplished than in many books of this nature. The type is clear, distinct, well spaced. The illustrations of 'poses' to be used for the meditational healing practices are clear and of good size. You can do as little or as much as desired and are led to understand it is all healing for your particular area of focus. You don't have to be a guru to use this guide to meditational practice for healing. I plan to purchase the video or audio abridged version to simplify the practice for myself as the book is frequently needing to be referenced during the pose and breathing work you'll be doing. An excellent addition to the alternative healing library.

MEDITATION - A TERRIFIC STRESS RELIEVER!
Meditation is a great stress reliever and has had some valuable results in many cases in improving sleep patterns, aiding in pain management, reducing stress and heart problems, and lowering blood pressure. One of the key elements in the success of mediatation lies in studying the chakras, mantras, and breathing exercises and having the self-discipline to follow through on the meditations on a regular basis.

This is an excellent book based on the concept of using meditation as a powerful healing agent which heals both mind and body. Like many other things in life, what you read only works if you put what you read to good use and have the dedication and commitment to stick with it. For anyone interested in meditation and healing, this is a first-rate book written by one of the most knowledgeable authors on the subject.

To the Edge
Published in Paperback by Alice Street Editions (August, 2001)
Author: Cameron Abbott
Average review score:

Interesting read, but a bit predictable.
The book is a marvelous first attempt; the plot is neat, the main characters interesting and mature as they age, and the villains are easy to hate. The narrative weaves much of the magic, although the sequencing can be a bit predictable. I love how Abbott portrays the the rawness of emotions in the little plot twists. I hope she continues on this level of fine writing for her future productions...

Excellent book
Cameron Abbott has scored big with what is apparently her first novel. She develops her characters well and doesn't rush her story. The scenes develop at a believeable pace and there is always just enough uncertainty that you can't be sure where the story is going. The story is told in two parts. First, it's the 1970s and you meet Anne Henderson at college. She's a star in the college theater group, but that's small consolation in her private life. She thinks she's in love with a friend from high school, Gallagher Davenport, who is straight, so that appears to be hopeless. Anne has dismissed her feelings as just strong bonds of friendship and has followed convention by having a boyfried. Something is missing though. Instead, Anne finds herself being drawn in by the fascinating Rae Sheldon. Rae will entice her, love her and betray her. Then the book flips to twenty years later. Anne is a high powered lawyer in a New York firm and just as she's involved in an important case, both Gallagher and Rae show up in her life. Anne's attraction to Gallagher is still strong and though she's willing to settle for friendship, Gallagher seems to be indicating she wants something more. Anne's just as determined to stay away from Rae, who won't leave her alone. Meanwhile, there is a summer intern at the law firm who is definitely trying to put the moves on Anne AND her case appears to be headed for disaster. There are enough twists and turns in this plot to keep you wondering how it will turn out, literally until the last pages. I read the whole book in a few hours. Great work.

Couldn't put it down!!!
This book was absolutely one of the best books I've read in years! It has it all -- gripping plot, well developed characters whom I grew to love very much, and some very steamy sex scenes!! I can't believe I've never heard of Cameron Abbott before. If she keeps writing, I'll be losing a lot more sleep, because this book kept me up over the course of several nights --I just couldn't put it down! And once I finished it, I reread it all over again. I read a lot of lesbian fiction, so I'm pretty used to all of the differences in quality. To The Edge really stands out as something special in lesbian literature -- I certainly hope Cameron Abbott will be doing a LOT more writing!

Beauty Sleep
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Pulse (01 December, 2002)
Author: Cameron Dokey
Average review score:

Dessert
This was a delightful book! Nothing life-changing, but definitely an enjoyable read-- nicely paced, well-written, and charming. I especially liked the way Dokey got around the nagging plot-problems of the original Sleeping Beauty tales: I mean, sleeping for a hundred years does not make for a page-turning story and kissing unconscious strangers seems kind of creepy. I'm happy to say that Dokey handled both problems with grace and style.

But I wonder if the people from the school library journal (above) actually read it, since Ironheart and Charming are two *different* people in the book.

Beauty Sleep keeps you WIDE awake
...: I think all of you out there should read this book. It has a meaning within the book. In fact, it has several meanings. Of course, all books have meanings in them. But this is a book with a true meaning...one that is important. This meaning is related to life and love, etc. It has quite a bit of vocabulary and concepts and phrases may be difficult to understand. Still, it is good. It is a twisted version of Sleeping Beauty. I believe that it is extremely well written. It has unexpected events and suspense as well. A good combination indeed. I finished this book in one day. That has got to stand for something since I pretty much hate reading for the most part. But back to the point, I think this is a really good book, one that teaches you an important aspect in life and so on. It's extremely rare that I give something, especially a book, 5 stars!

Story: Aurore is a princess who has been cursed since the day of her christening. Cousin Jane puts a spell on her, the ever famous spell, and Chantel tries to make the spell better so that Aurore will not die. As she grows up, she bonds with her cousin Oswald. When she turns 16, chaos reins for many days in her kingdom and strange things happen...raining blood...cats giving birth to ravens...Aurore decides it is time to flee. She runs into the forbidden forest that is said to be enchanted. There, she meets a man named Ironheart. She joins him on a quest that brings her places she never knew...within the forest..and within her heart. Despite the spells and curses cast upon her creating her destiny, Aurore discovers that love is the most powerful magic of all...

Sleeping Beauty
i just happened upon this book accidentally when i was looking at the story-tellers daughter for the hundredth time. When i saw this book next to it, i picked it up. It was a sleeping beauty tale. I love fairy tales, sleeping beauty being one of my favorites. I have read so many different versions of the story, i was expecting this book to be more of a generic version. However, I was delightfully surprised. When i took it home, i read it right away. I could not put it down. Page after page, I couldn't wait to see what would happen. Of course i knew she was going to have to prick her finger sometime, but the author told the story in such a way that i was slightly surprised in the manner in which it happened. Not only was the story uniquely told, it was also told from the view point of the princess aurore. this book managed to pull off a unique version of sleeping beauty while still maintaining the fairytale feel. I really enjoyed this book, and will read it again.

Above Paris: A New Collection of Aerial Photographs of Paris, France
Published in Hardcover by Cameron & Co (December, 1984)
Authors: Robert Cameron and Pierre Salinger
Average review score:

If you love Paris...
This book is a beautiful collection of photographs of Paris, from the sky.

The aerial photography is wonderfully executed, and shows all different sides of Paris. I lived in Paris as a college student for a few months. I fell in love with the city and I purchased this book because I wanted something to remember the beauty of Paris by. This book did not disappoint. It presents a clear view of Paris, a city often shrouded by rose-colored glasses.

I especially enjoyed the comparitive photographs that are included in the collection. Some photographs show Paris of 100 years ago, and again from the same view, modern Paris.

The city of lights is beautifully presented in this well-done collection. If you hold Paris close to your heart, you will love this book.

A marvelously produced book of Paris from Above
This is a stellar exploration of Paris and its environs via aerial photographs. Armed with a map and this book, you can take a wonderful tour of Paris from a bird's-eye perspective, becoming familiar with the layout of the city, the location of the most famous spots in relation to other structures, and a feel for how the city is built around the various physical landmarks, including hills and the waterways. There is also a wealth of photographs from the surrounding areas of Paris.

The photographs are of the greatest imaginable clarity, with a wealth of detail in every picture. Although it is possible to flip through the book, the best approach is to take it and carefully study each picture, teasing out all the details that each one can reveal. I will confess that I have never been to Paris, but thanks to studying this as well as other books enabling one to study the layout of the city, I honestly believe that I could negotiate between the landmarks if I were suddenly plopped down in the center of the city.

I have only two complaints with the book. First, the first section of the book features both historical and modern views of the same areas. I would have liked to see a lot more of that. For me, these were by far the most interesting photos in the book, and I wouldn't have minded if this constituted the bulk of the book. Second, while the pictures are of the highest imaginable quality, most were taken from approximately the same elevation. If one compares the photographs here to those in Jan Morris's OVER EUROPE, you will find in the latter a much greater variation in elevation. In the Morris book, they were able to many instances to use a remote control balloon with a camera to get much, much lower than Cameron was in this volume. Pierre Salinger's intro details some of the difficulties they had in getting permission for low-level photographs. Minor quibbles, but I do believe that more variety in the book would have increased its attractiveness and value.

One of the best solid books
Really, it is rather rare and pleasant to come across the books devoted to aerial photos of Paris. I have only one more. And it is twice pleasant to have such a solid and interesting book. Besides it contains good and well done photos, this book is intersting because you have the chance to compare Paris of 80-s and present Paris if you have been there. If not - no way, it will help you to get more about Paris when you'll have the chance.

The Bad Girl's Guide to the Party Life
Published in Paperback by Chronicle Books (August, 2002)
Authors: Cameron Tuttle and Susannah Bettag
Average review score:

Never been "Badder"
This book is great! To put it shortly, one of my friends gave it to me as a graduation present last year and he is now my best friend. Cameron Tuttle reminds us all to embrace our inner 'baddy' with style and confidence. This book made a lovely addition to my college bookshelf and is something my friends and I pick up whenever we need a few laughs. Buy it for your favorite 'bad' girl friend!

I am the Bad Girl Party!
After reading Bad Girl Numero Uno Cameron Tuttle's third Bad Girl's Guide, I have officially declared myself a member of The Bad Girl Party! And I'm not alone. Bad girls everywhere are joining the revolution and as Cameron says, "Being bad isn't just a personality type, it's an underground political movement." Fun stuff.

Cameron's book is loaded with endless ideas about how to turn anything and everything in your life into a good time--from tranforming your car into a giant disco ball on wheels to giving out party favors at your next business meeting--but it also goes beyond a good laugh. It has an underlying message of positivity and empowerment that will inspire you to declare yourself the host of the ultimate party--your life!

Party!
With this book, you can turn EVERYTHING into a party! I love this! I'm not a hostess, nor do I plan to throw parties anytime soon, but this is just as great for people who like to party a lot. and as i said, after you read this, everything in life is a party.

Money Drunk, Money Sober: 90 Days To Financial Freedom
Published in Digital by Barnes and Noble Digital ()
Authors: Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan
Average review score:

Great Philosophy!
For me, this book was more useful to explore my spending habits. When do I spend my money? Why? What are ways to circumvent this spending? In terms of the actual plan to get out of debt, I found it less helpful to me than other books on the market today (Of course, I encourage that you read as many books on this subject as you can check out for free from the library).

The way proposed to get out of debt or at least so you stop living off credit cards is good and sound, built up through a week-by-week program. However, some of the activities I don't believe will benefit all people who pick up and read the book. If you're way in over your head, getting calls from collections and STILL debting, definitely check this one out, but if you're like me and are not yet at that point, just read the first half to get into the psychology of your spending behaviour.

Super Reading!
Lots of terrific info that can help you get out of debt. A change of attitude about money is important. This book is the answer to your money woes!

Thank you!
It's obvious that Mr. Bryan and Ms. Cameron know what they are talking about from page one, and, thank goodness, they have been able to explain (to me) my own lifelong struggle with money handling!!! Now, with insight into the origins of my money dilemma, I have been able to make my money work with my life for the first time! Whew! What a great relief!!! I understand now that this is a learned behavior, and yes, I used money to "fill in the blanks" that I thought I had. Now I realize I really don't have any "blanks", that I'm really quite marvelous in many ways (why haven't I been able to see that till now?)! I just had this painful and debilitating old habit I'm now glad to be rid of for good. So, BRAVO, Cameron and Bryan...and many, many thanks!!!

A must have for even the older fans of Titanic!
I know this movie has been taken over by the younger generation, but we all agree it is AWESOME! This poster book is great for fans of all ages. I am glad I didn't pass it up. The posters are beautiful and most of which I haven't seen. What are you waiting for? BUY THIS POSTER BOOK!

Fantastic pictures capturing the excitement of the movie.
This Poster book is absolutely beautiful. It has twelve extraordinary posters from the movie Titanic and I think that everyone who loves the movie MUST have this book! I have already two of the posters in my room, I wish I had more space to hang them all to my bedrooms'walls. All in all I have 5 Titanic posters in my room, one of the real Titanic and the others from the movie.

Get it! (if you have enough space in your room)
I got the poster book and it had so many cool posters! I only had room for three (they're huge!-regular poster size) and I couldn't choose which ones!
